Privacy Policy
Effective August 25, 2026
1. Introduction
Portview ("we", "us", or "our") operates portview.finance and related services (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your personal information when you use the Service. By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. Your use of the Service is also subject to our Terms of Service.
We take your privacy seriously. We do not sell your personal data or financial information to third parties, we do not use your financial data for advertising, and we do not run advertising networks or interest-based advertising on the Service.
2. Information We Collect
Information You Provide Directly
When you create an account or use the Service, you may provide:
- Account information: your name, email address, and password, or the profile name, email address, and avatar shared by Google if you sign in with Google;
- Payment information: billing details processed by our third-party payment processor; we do not receive or store your full card number;
- Portfolio data: investment holdings, transactions, cash balances, custom assets, and account labels you manually enter or import from a file;
- Communications: messages or requests you send to our support team;
- Waitlist details: the email address you submit to join the waitlist, along with the source of the signup.
Information Collected Automatically
When you access or use the Service, we automatically collect:
- Usage data: pages visited, features used, actions taken, and time spent on the Service;
- Device data: browser type and version, operating system, device type, screen size, and language;
- Log and diagnostic data: server logs, request traces, error reports, stack traces, and performance measurements;
- IP address: your IP address is processed to deliver the Service, and is stored temporarily as a rate-limit counter when you submit the waitlist form so we can prevent abuse. That counter expires automatically within minutes;
- Session replays: see Section 4;
- Cookies and similar technologies: see Section 6.
We do not collect precise geolocation data, and the Service does not ask for access to your device location.
Information from Third-Party Integrations
If the Service offers an optional connection to an external financial account and you choose to authorize it, we will collect the data that connection returns (such as holdings, transaction history, and balances) solely to display and analyze your portfolio within the Service. We access that data only to the extent necessary to provide the Service, and we will describe any such integration before you enable it.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, operate, and maintain the Service;
- Calculate and display your portfolio valuations, returns, allocations, and dividends;
- Process transactions and manage your subscription;
- Send account-related communications, including billing notices, security alerts, and service updates;
- Respond to your support requests and inquiries;
- Monitor and analyze usage patterns, diagnose errors, and improve the Service;
- Detect, prevent, and investigate fraud, security incidents, and abuse;
- Comply with applicable legal obligations and enforce our agreements.
We do not use your portfolio data or other personal information to train machine learning models, and we do not sell or share it for targeted advertising.
4. Session Recording & Analytics
To understand how the Service is used and to diagnose problems, we use PostHog for product analytics and session replay, and Sentry for error monitoring and session replay. Session replay reconstructs a rendering of your browsing session, including page navigation, clicks, scrolling, and console errors.
What is masked. All text you type into form inputs is masked before it leaves your browser, and elements we mark as sensitive are masked as well. Sentry samples a small percentage of sessions rather than recording every one, and records sessions in which an error occurs.
What may still appear. Because replays capture the page as rendered, figures displayed on your dashboard, such as balances, holdings, and returns, may be visible in a replay. We treat replay data as confidential, restrict internal access to it, and retain it only for as long as it is useful for debugging and product analysis.
How to opt out. Analytics and replay requests are sent to our own domain and can be blocked with a content blocker or privacy browser extension. Blocking them does not affect your ability to use the Service. If you would prefer we disable analytics for your account entirely, contact us at support@portview.finance and we will do so.
5. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share it only in the following circumstances:
Service Providers
We rely on the following providers to operate the Service. Each is bound by its contract with us to process your data only as we direct:
- Supabase: database hosting and user authentication;
- Vercel: application hosting, content delivery, and aggregate web and performance analytics;
- PostHog: product analytics, session replay, logs, and traces;
- Sentry: error monitoring and session replay;
- Upstash: Redis caching and rate limiting;
- Market data providers: market prices, dividends, and instrument reference data. We send them ticker symbols, not your holdings or identity;
- Logo.dev: company and brand logos displayed next to your holdings. We send it a company domain or ticker, not your identity;
- Google: optional sign-in with Google. Google returns your basic profile to us; it does not receive your portfolio data;
- Payment processor: our third-party payment provider handles subscription checkout and billing once paid plans are available.
Other Recipients
- Professional advisors: lawyers, auditors, accountants, and insurers, in the course of the services they provide to us;
- Legal requirements: we may disclose your information if required by law, regulation, or governmental request, or where we believe in good faith that it is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Portview, our users, or others;
- Business transfers: if Portview is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy;
- With your consent: we may share your information for any other purpose with your explicit consent.
6. Cookies & Tracking Technologies
We use cookies and similar technologies (such as local storage and session storage) to operate the Service, remember your preferences, and understand how users interact with the Service.
Types of cookies we use:
- Essential cookies: required for the Service to function, including authentication sessions and security tokens. These cannot be disabled;
- Preference storage: local storage that remembers your display settings, such as base currency, theme, and selected portfolio;
- Analytics cookies: set by PostHog to distinguish sessions and measure feature usage.
We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling non-essential cookies will not prevent you from using the Service, but some preferences may not persist between visits.
7. International Data Transfers
The Service is operated using infrastructure located primarily in the United States. Our hosting, database, analytics, and error monitoring providers process and store data in the United States and, in some cases, in other countries where they operate edge or backup infrastructure. If you access the Service from outside the United States, your personal information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your country.
Where a transfer is subject to European, United Kingdom, or similar data protection law, we rely on our providers' standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards. You may contact us for more information about the safeguards that apply.
8. Data Security
We implement technical, organizational, and physical safeguards designed to protect your personal information, including encryption in transit (TLS/HTTPS) and at rest, row-level access controls that scope portfolio data to your account, restricted internal access, and regular reviews of our systems and practices.
While we take these precautions seriously, security risk is inherent in all internet services and no method of transmission or storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of your data. If we become aware of a security breach that may affect your personal information, we will notify you in accordance with applicable law.
9. Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days, except where:
- Retention is required by applicable law or regulation;
- Data is needed to resolve disputes or enforce our agreements;
- Data has been aggregated or anonymized and can no longer identify you.
Diagnostic data such as server logs, error reports, and session replays is retained on a shorter schedule set by the relevant provider, typically no more than 90 days. We do not attempt to re-identify data that has been anonymized.
10. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to anyone under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 18, we will take steps to delete it promptly. If you are a parent or guardian and believe we have collected information from a child under 18, please contact us at support@portview.finance.
11. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:
- Access: request a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
- Correction: request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information;
- Deletion: request deletion of your personal information, subject to certain exceptions;
- Portability: request a machine-readable copy of your data. You can also export your portfolio data to CSV from within the Service at any time;
- Objection and restriction: object to or ask us to restrict certain types of processing;
- Withdraw consent: where we rely on your consent, withdraw it at any time. Withdrawal does not affect processing carried out before you withdrew;
- Appeal: appeal a decision if we decline a request you have validly submitted.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@portview.finance. We will respond within 30 days and may ask you to verify your identity before processing your request. You will not be treated differently for exercising these rights. If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
12. Your Choices
Access or update your information. You can review and update your account details and portfolio data at any time from your account settings, and you can delete your account from the same place.
Opt out of communications. You may opt out of product and marketing emails using the unsubscribe link in any such email. We will still send you account-related messages such as billing notices and security alerts, which are necessary to operate your account.
Analytics and session replay. See Section 4 for what we record and how to opt out.
Do Not Track.Some browsers can send a "Do Not Track" signal. There is no common standard for how services should respond to these signals, so we do not currently respond to them. We do not track you across third-party websites regardless.
Declining to provide information. We need certain information, such as your email address, to provide the Service. If you decline to provide it, we may not be able to give you access to some or all of the Service.
13. Other Sites & Services
The Service may contain links to websites and other online services operated by third parties. These links are not an endorsement. We do not control third-party services and are not responsible for their content or privacy practices. We encourage you to read the privacy policy of every third-party service you use.
14. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you by email or by a prominent notice on the Service. Your continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
15. Contact Us
